The last couple of months have been particularly frustrating for Latinos who have been hoping for action in regard to repairing our country’s immigration system. Latino voters in North Carolina have felt that both parties either use or ignore them, which has led some to feel that they should just sit out the elections in November. However, Latino participation is critical this November. Voting is the only way to ensure that both parties respect Latino voters and address their priorities.
While many groups across the state have been working to register voters of all ethnicities, new voting laws in North Carolina may make it more difficult for some voters to exercise their right to vote. Moreover, Latinos voters have tended to participate less in midterm elections compared to presidential elections. For this reason, we have released the NCCC’s church bulletin inserts about voting laws in Spanish. We hope that this will help to inform our Spanish-speaking brothers and sisters about their voting rights so that they can choose who makes decisions on their behalf.
